Important Events - 2019 -2020

Inauguration of the new academic year 2019-2020:The Inauguration of the new academic year 2019-20 was held on 3rd July, 2019. Rev. Fr. David Kumar, OMI Councilor for Formation, celebrated the inaugural mass along with Rev. Fr. Chinnappan Maria Soosai, the then District Animator and other Oblates of the District.  After the mass we had a short inaugural function introducing the vision of the year 2019-20 - ‘‘Responding to the Spirit of Oblate Vocation.”  Many priests and religious of our vicinity also joined us on this joyful occasion.

Orientation for the Academic Year 2019-2020: The Orientation Programme for the academic year 2019-20 was organized from 4th to 6th of July, 2019. We had Rev. Fr. Andrew, OMI animating the students on the first day on the theme: “Introduction to philosophy”. The second day was animated by Rev. Fr. Tomy, OMI on formation, with the theme “I will give you shepherds after my own hearts.” The third day was animated by Rev. Fr. Maria Selvam on the theme “Religious Formation and Vocation”.

Founder’s Day: On1st August, 2019 we celebrated our Founder’s Day with a solemn Holy Eucharist presided over by our administrator, Rev. Fr. Sebastian, OMI. After the Mass and breakfast we had a refreshing basket-ball match conducted by the brothers. Our Oblates from the De Mazenod Illam also joined us in these celebrations.

Independence Day: 15th August 2019, we celebrated in pomp, the feast of the Assumption of our Blessed Mother and the Independence Day of our nation. Fr. Johnson, OMI was invited to preside over the Eucharistic Celebration and to be the chief guest of the Independence Day function. We thank Fr. Johnson for his inspiring Independence Day message. After the breakfast we had an interesting valley-ball match conducted by the games in-charges.

Visitation: On 18th September, 2019 we had a three member team namely Prof. Dr. Wilson CMI, Prof. Dr. Jose CMI, and Prof. Dr. Jojo CMI from Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram to visit and study our process of affiliation with the DVK. During their visit Rev. Fr. Chinnappan Sandappan, OMI Provincial Superior, St. Eugene Province India and Rev. Fr. David Kumar, OMI Councilor for Formation were also present.
           
Annual Tour: From January 27th to 29th we had gone for a community tour to Rameshwaram. It was joyful moment of being together as a community. We sincerely thank Frs. Andrew, Vincent and James (Kombadimadurai Parish) for their hospitality and accompaniment.

Philosophy Symposium:On the 05th of March, 2020 we had organized a Philosophy Symposium on the theme: Implications of CAA-NRC-NPR in Secular India. We had Rev. Fr. Arociasamy, OMI, Rev. Fr. Basil, OMI and Rev. Fr. Millar, MMI, invited as resource persons to share on the topics: Citizenship Embodied in the Constitution of India, CAA-NRC-NPR and its Implications and Legitimacy of Protest against CAA-NRC-NPR respectively. Two of our students Bros. Chandu Ponugumati and Rakesh Lakra also presented their papers on the theme: legitimacy of People’s Protests against CAA-NRC-NPR and the Legitimacy of Government’s Protests against Peoples’ Protest. We thank Fr. Antony Samy sincerely for all his innovative initiatives to make this year’s symposium a success.

Annual Day: On 19th March, 2020 we celebrated our 9th Annual Day Celebration. The thanksgiving Eucharist was presided over by Rev. Fr. Provincial along with Frs. David Kumar and Chinnappan. M. This occasion was also graced by the presence of the Oblates of Amala Annai Zone, Kancheepuram, Priests, Religious and Friends of DIP. After the thanksgiving Eucharist we had a short Annual Day Celebration at our St. Eugene Auditorium followed by a festive lunch.

The Institutions in Corona Lockdown

India went into a national lockdown since 25 March 2020. Since then the formators and formees are in the seminaries itself, and they are continuing their studies.
